5p

12 Aug 2008

I was 5p short at the shop today. The lady simply said I could pop it in tomorrow (I go there often as it’s the only shop in the village).

Sometimes a simple act of trust is so much more than the price.

I love it when this sort of thing happens - I had two similar things happen to me - once was in a food court place and I was a couple of quid short and he said the same thing - you come here often don’t you? - well just pay it next time.

The other time was at a Starbucks - I went to pay but their card machine wasn’t working and I had no cash - I apologised and walked out the shop - the bloke ran out after me and said look I’ve already made the drinks come and have them for free - not just one drink but mine and the kids on a cold rotten day! And these weren’t small local stores they were in a huge shopping outlet.

Makes such a difference from the miserable bored responses I almost expect to get from most places now - or even worse people that don’t even acknowledge you when they serve you or carry on chatting to their colleagues like you’re not there. Even when I’m really miserable myself I really like it when people in shops make the effort.

Pocket the 5p and don’t go back.

Repeat 20 million times and you will be a millionaire. :)
